What happened?
We woke up to a new world. But no worries, we’ve got this
Seems like a lifetime, but it was only a week or so since President Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential election, endorsing Vice President Harris as the Democratic nominee.
While it’s unusual for the presumed nominee of a major party to withdraw, there is a process in place. The Democratic party has established protocols-- they will cast their votes to confirm a nominee at or before the Democratic National Convention this August.
What’s happening now?
Looks like the coast is clear for Kamala. But these days, you never know
Vice President Harris has secured the support of more than the 1,976 delegates needed to attain the nomination. While this support is not binding until the delegates officially cast their votes at the Democratic National Convention in late August, no candidates have stepped forward to challenge Vice President Harris.
What comes next?
Don’t jump the shark! One President at a time, please.
While Biden will no longer be on the Democratic ticket for the 2024 presidential election, he will remain in office until the next president is inaugurated in January.
The candidate to win the majority of the votes at the Convention will officially become the nominee “upon the conclusion of their acceptance speech.” Harris will obtain the nomination so long as the delegates who pledged their support officially cast their votes for her.
What can you do?
Whatever candidate you favor, whatever issue drives you, the main thing is to get off your butt and work for it.
You can contact your state party leaders with your opinions, register to vote by 10/21/2024, and stay informed!
